FAW Besturn X40 is a front-wheel drive SUV of the subcompact category, which combines modern and laconic design, decent technical component and rich equipment (for a reasonable price) ...

It is focused primarily on city dwellers (for them, having an all-wheel drive is not a priority), who prefer active pastime and outdoor recreation ...

The serial crossover "live" appeared to the world community in mid-November 2016 - at the international auto show in Guangzhou, but its conceptual forerunner called "Besturn X4" was presented back in April of the same year - at the stands of the Beijing Motor Show. Conveyor production of the five-door started in the Middle Kingdom in February 2017, and two months later, its sales on the home market began.

Exterior

The Besturn X40 looks attractive, harmonious and balanced, and the contrasting color of the mirror housings and the roof exalts its freshness.

The front off-road vehicle attracts the eye with menacingly frowned lighting technology, a hexagonal “shield” of the radiator grille with chrome crossbars and a raised bumper with LED “splashes” of running lights, and at the back it boasts original lanterns and a neat bumper with imitation of steel protection and two fake exhaust pipes.

In profile, the car demonstrates laconic, pretty and proportional outlines with a smoothly sloping roof, a sill line tending towards it, "muscular" wheel arches, in which 17-inch "rollers" flaunt, and expressive sidewalls in general.

Dimensions and weight

In terms of its dimensions, the FAW Besturn X40 is in the subcompact SUV segment: it is 4310 mm long, 1680 mm high, and 1780 mm wide. The center-to-center distance at the five-door is 2600 mm, and its ground clearance does not exceed 180 mm.

The curb weight of the "Chinese" varies from 1290 to 1325 kg (depending on the version).

Interior

The interior of the crossover is decorated without fancy, but it is completely devoid of obvious design punctures - a three-spoke multi-steering wheel with a "chubby" rim, a stylish instrument cluster with two analog dials and a monochrome display of the board computer, a modern center console with a protruding 8-inch media system screen and well-arranged blocks of an audio system and "microclimate".

The interior of the car boasts good-quality finishing materials (nice plastics, fabric, artificial leather, metal-look inserts) and a decent level of assembly.

The passport capacity of the FAW Besturn X40 is five people, but the second row of seats is more suitable for accommodating only two passengers (the third will be uncomfortable with the protruding central tunnel, and there is no headrest for it).

At the front of the passenger compartment, ergonomic seats are installed with unobtrusive lateral supports, sufficient adjustment intervals and heating.

In the normal state, the trunk of the crossover is able to "absorb" 375 liters of luggage, but the overall impression of it is spoiled by the protruding wheel arches. The rear sofa folds down in the ratio "60:40", as a result of which a completely flat platform is not obtained, but the volume increases to 1525 liters (when loaded under the ceiling). A 16-inch spare wheel and tools are hidden in a niche under the raised floor.

Specifications

The FAW Besturn X40 is powered by a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine made of aluminum, with four vertically oriented cylinders, a distributed "power" system, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt and variable valve timing, producing 108 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 155 Nm of rotational potential at 3600 rpm.

The standard subcompact crossover relies on a 5-speed "manual" gearbox and front-wheel drive transmission, and for an extra charge it is equipped with a 6-band "automatic" with a torque converter.

The maximum five-door accelerates to 168-173 km / h, depending on the modification (other characteristics have not yet been announced).

Design features

The backbone of the FAW Besturn X40 is a front-wheel drive transmission with a transverse power plant, and the power structure of its body for an abundant part consists of high-strength steel grades.

An independent McPherson suspension is mounted on the front axle of the car, and a semi-independent architecture with a torsion beam ("in a circle" - with steel springs and anti-roll bars) is mounted on the rear.

The crossover uses a rack and pinion steering complex, supplemented by an electric control amplifier. Both in front and behind the "Chinese" has disc brakes (in the first case - ventilated), functioning in conjunction with ABS, EBD and other electronic "gadgets".
