Ford Mondeo is a front-wheel drive sedan of the mid-size category (although its dimensions can be attributed to the business segment without any hesitation), which combines expressive design, high-quality interior, innovative technologies and the level of "premium" comfort (at least according to the machine builder himself) ... Its main target audience is middle-aged family men who have already managed to take a responsible position or have launched their own business ...

"The fourth Mondeo" celebrated its premiere in September 2012 at a car show in Paris, while the model could be previewed in January of the same year - it was then that the American version appeared under the name "Fusion".

If this car (and in three body solutions at once) became available to European buyers in the fall of 2014, then only a sedan reached Russia, and this happened in March 2015 (although preliminary acceptance of orders for it began at the end of February).

It is worth noting that this is the fourth generation of the model (and not the fifth, as many mistakenly assume because of the "Mk V" index) - the fact is that the 1st generation "Mondeo" originally bore the designation "Mk I", and after updates in 1996, remaining the same as the 1st generation, received a new index - "Mk II", as a result of which a certain confusion arose.

In July 2018, as part of a global technical modernization, the car acquired an expanded set of electronic assistants and new equipment (in particular, adaptive LED headlights, rear parking sensors and a blind spot monitoring system were modified for it), but at the same time did not survive any visual changes and kept intact range of power plants.

The "fourth" Ford Mondeo has a stunning appearance, and you can't argue with that! The front end is the most striking, thanks to the signature hexagonal radiator grille with chrome-plated Aston Martin crossbars. But not only this is notable for the "face" of the sedan, it is also crowned with a narrow head optics (in top versions - fully LED), a sculpted hood and a powerful bumper with a "mouth" of the air intake and round fog lamps.

The silhouette of the three-volume model is overflowing with swiftness and dynamism, therefore, without exaggeration, it can be called a “four-door coupe”. This title of the 4th generation "Mondeo" is supported by a domed roof with a heavily heaped rear roof pillar, side mirrors on graceful struts and stampings on the sidewalls.

The Mondeo stern is harmonious and proportional, and the most noticeable details are elegant lamps with LED components, a developed bumper with two exhaust pipes and a large trunk lid.

Despite the fact that Ford Mondeo is formally "registered" in the D-class, but in terms of its overall dimensions it can already be attributed to the E-class according to the European classification: 4871 mm in length, 1482 mm in height and 1852 mm in width. The wheelbase of the total length is allocated 2850 mm, and the ground clearance is adapted to Russian realities and is 145 mm (for European versions - 128 mm).

The interior of the sedan with the index "Mk5" is somewhat discordant with the exterior - it looks correct, but does not cause vivid emotions. The stylish dashboard features an attractive design and high functionality, and right in front of it is a three-spoke steering wheel (in expensive versions - with buttons responsible for the audio system and on-board computer).

The leading role on the 4th generation center console is assigned to the 7-inch color display of the SYNC 2 multimedia complex, through which you can control all the main functions of the car. The control panel for the "Sony" audio system does not look very harmonious here, and it is "surrounded" by the buttons of the climate system - this is "not entirely clear" to the eye.

The interior of the three-volume "Mondeo" is woven from high-quality finishing materials: soft to the touch and visually pleasing plastics, as well as genuine leather in "top" versions. The assembly of the cabin is performed at an acceptable level, all panels are soundly fitted to each other, there are no obvious gaps.

Comfortable front seats Mondeo Mk V have a well-arranged profile with optimal lateral support, dense padding and excellent adjustment ranges in several directions. Optionally, the chairs are equipped with heating, ventilation, electrical settings and memory.

The rear sofa is more suitable for two passengers: the third may be cramped, including due to a large tunnel. The amount of space in the legs and in width with a margin, but the low ceiling will put pressure on the heads of tall riders. From the conveniences on the "gallery" - a box-armrest with a pair of cup holders in the center and air vents, and in the "saturated" versions also heating.

The Ford Mondeo sedan has a 429-liter luggage compartment with a full-size "spare" in the underground. The volume is "not a record", but the compartment is supposed to: a wide opening, high-quality finishing and thoughtfulness. For transporting long vehicles, the vehicle is equipped with a 60:40 split folding rear seat.


For the Russian market, the 4th generation Ford Mondeo is equipped with three gasoline engines, each of which has an exclusive 6F35 automatic transmission and a front-wheel drive transmission.

  • The atmospheric "four" with a volume of 2.5 liters is the base option for the sedan, and it generates 149 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 225 Nm of torque at 3900 rpm.
    This potential allows the car to gain the first hundred in 10.3 seconds, and its "maximum" is fixed at 204 km / h. The power unit is certified to "digest" AI-92 gasoline, which it needs on average 8.2 liters per hundred kilometers in combined mode.
  • The next engine is the 2.0-liter EcoBoost, which uses a combination of direct fuel injection and turbocharging. Its maximum output is 199 "horses" at 5300 rpm, and a peak thrust of 345 Nm is produced in the range from 2700 to 3500 rpm.
    After 8.7 seconds, such a Ford Mondeo breaks down to conquer the second hundred, and the speedometer needle will continue to move up to 218 km / h. The unit is more sensitive to fuel quality, and its average consumption is 8 liters of AI-95 in the combined cycle.
  • The "top" option is the EcoBoost unit with a volume of 2.0 liters and a potential of 240 horsepower, equipped with direct injection and turbocharging and developing 345 Nm of torque at 2300-4900 rpm.
    Such indicators allow the three-volume vehicle to leave behind the first 100 km / h in 7.9 seconds and accelerate to a maximum of 233 km / h. At the same time, fuel consumption will not overwhelm: for every 100 km in combined mode, the car relies on 8 liters of AI-95 gasoline.

At the heart of the Mondeo MkV is the global CD4 platform, which is a thoroughly redesigned version of the old CD3.

The front suspension is represented by classic MacPherson struts, and the rear is a multi-link design with a small vertical arm between the main transverse and the trunnion.

The body of the car was developed from scratch, and the share of high-strength steels in its construction accounts for 61%, and the boot floor panel is made of magnesium alloy, as a result of which this rather large sedan weighs only 1560-1562 kg in running order.

The fourth generation machine is equipped with an Electric Power Assisted Steering System (EPAS), which is able to automatically adjust to road conditions and driving speed. The brakes on the car are disc brakes on all wheels (ventilated at the front), and their design is very simple - one piston and a floating caliper.


On the Russian market, the 2018 Ford Mondeo is offered in five trim levels to choose from - Ambiente, Trend, Titanium, Business Edition and Titanium Plus.

A car in the basic version with a 149-horsepower engine costs a minimum of 1,385,000 rubles, and its functionality includes: seven airbags, 16-inch steel wheels, heated and electrically adjustable side mirrors, ABS, ESP, EBA, assistance system when starting up the hill , ERA-GLONASS technology, power windows for all doors, air conditioning, an audio system with six speakers and some other equipment.

Sedan with a 199 hp engine. is sold with the "Titanium" configuration at a price of 1,799,000 rubles, and the "top-end" modification will cost from 2,020,000 rubles (the same, but with a 240-horsepower unit under the hood - 50,000 rubles more).

"Mondeo" in the most sophisticated version boasts: 17-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, a Sony audio system with nine speakers, a media center with an 8-inch screen, adaptive cruise, keyless entry and engine start, full LED optics, heated windshield and steering wheel, dual-zone "climate", heating, electric drive, ventilation and massage of the front seats, heated back sofa and many other "goodies".
