Lada Granta is a front-wheel drive budget B-class sedan by European standards, embodying quite nice design, a good level of practicality, excellent adaptability to "Russian realities" and a decent level of equipment (and all this for a reasonable price) ...
It is positioned by the manufacturer as a "people's car", addressed primarily to middle-aged family people with a low level of income who need "an inexpensive vehicle for every day" ...
The full-scale premiere of the three-volume vehicle took place in August 2011 at the stands of the Moscow International Auto Show, and its serial production began a few months later - in October of the same year (although, in a test mode, the AvtoVAZ conveyor began assembling this car back in May).
The car, which replaced three outdated models at once (Lada 2107, Kalina and Samara), was developed on the basis of the same Kalina, but at the same time received over 400 original parts.
By 2014, "Grant" was overtaken by a light "facelift" - the most noticeable touching the front bumper.
And exactly seven years after the debut (in August 2018), Lada Granta appeared in a radically updated guise, and in the same place - at the car bridegrooms in Moscow.
As a result of restyling, the four-door was seriously transformed externally, trying on the "family" X-design of the Togliatti enterprise, received a front panel from the "second" Kalina inside (however, an X-shaped decor was added to it) and acquired new equipment. Restyling did not go without technical metamorphoses - the "mechanics" reconfigured the gear ratio of the main pair, and the "robot" was modified following the example of "Vesta".
Outside, Lada Granta demonstrates quite an attractive, modern and proportional look - at least, its appearance does not cause any rejection and does not irritate.
The most stylish and interesting sedan looks full-face (and all thanks to the corporate X-style) - slanting headlights, a large brand logo and chrome "boomerangs" bordering the embossed bumper and visually uniting the radiator and lower grilles.
But from other angles the car no longer attracts so much attention: a characteristic three-volume silhouette with unpretentious sidewalls, a high "raised" roof and a long "branch" of the trunk and a fairly harmonious feed with a "curly" trunk lid carrying a bunch of stampings and a license plate, neat lanterns and "plump" bumper.
According to its dimensions, Lada Granta belongs to the segment of subcompact models according to the European classification: its length is 4260 mm, height - 1500 mm, width - 1700 mm. The wheelbase of the four-door is 2476 mm, and its ground clearance is 160 mm.
When equipped, the car weighs at least 1075 kg.
Inside, the restyled "Grant" meets its inhabitants with a nice and moderately modern design, devoid of contradictory decisions - a three-spoke "steering wheel" with tides in the correct grip, a laconic instrument cluster with two arrow "wells" and an on-board computer display, a strict center console with rectangular deflectors, a two-din radio tape recorder and three "washers" of the air conditioner.
In the interior of the car, mainly hard budget plastics are used, "ennobled" with silver decor.
According to the passport, the Lada Granta decoration has a five-seater layout, but in fact, the second row of seats with an acceptable level of comfort can only accommodate two adults (the space is limited both in the legs and above the head), although the sofa itself demonstrates a fairly comfortable shape.
In the front seats, there are seats with a well-defined lateral support and solid adjustment ranges (in the "top" versions, the driver's seat is also adjustable in height in a 40-mm interval).
The trunk of the four-door "Grants" is to the envy of many competitors: its volume in normal condition is 480 liters. The second row of seats folds down to form a flat floor and a large opening into the cabin. The underfloor niche of the car is occupied by a full-size spare wheel and a minimum set of tools.
In the Russian market, the restyled Lada Granta is offered with three atmospheric petrol "fours" with a working volume of 1.6 liters each with an in-line arrangement, distributed fuel injection and variable valve timing:
- Basic version - 8-valve unit VAZ-11186, which produces 87 horsepower at 5100 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 3800 rpm.
- Slightly higher in the hierarchy is the engine VAZ-21126 with a 16-valve timing structure, generating 98 hp. at 5600 rpm and 145 Nm of peak thrust at 4000 rpm.
- "Top" versions relies on a 16-valve VAZ-21127which produces 106 hp. at 5800 rpm and 148 Nm of rotational potential at 4200 rpm.
By default, the car is equipped with a 5-speed "mechanics" and a front-wheel drive transmission, the 98-horsepower modification relies exclusively on the 4-band "automatic" Jatco, and versions with a 106 hp engine. can be both with a "manual" gearbox, and with a 5-speed "robot".
From a standstill to 100 km / h, the three-volume vehicle accelerates after 10.5-12.4 seconds, and reaches a maximum of 167-183 km / h.
In the combined mode, the car consumes from 6.6 to 7.6 liters of fuel for every "hundred" of the way, depending on the version.
The Lada Granta is based on a front-wheel drive architecture with a transverse power plant. At the front, the car is equipped with an independent spring suspension of the MacPherson type with an anti-roll bar, and at the rear - a semi-dependent spring-lever structure ("in a circle" - with hydraulic or gas-filled shock absorbers).
The sedan uses gear-rack steering, supplemented by a gearless electric amplifier. The front wheels of the four-door are equipped with ventilated disc brakes, and the rear ones have drum devices (in all versions - with ABS, EBD and BAS).
In the Russian market, Lada Granta 2019 model year in a four-door body is offered at a price of 419,900 rubles.
By default, the sedan is equipped with: driver's airbag, ABS, EBD, BAS, immobilizer, ERA-GLONASS system, body-colored bumpers, audio preparation, 13-inch steel wheels and some other options.
