The fourth generation Volkswagen Polo celebrated its world premiere in September 2001 at a car show in Frankfurt, and its official sales started in early 2002. Three years later, the "German" went through a planned modernization, which affected the exterior and interior, after which it was implemented unchanged until 2009 - it was then that he acquired a legal successor.

The 4th generation Polo is a typical representative of the European B-class, which was available in three body styles: a three- and five-door hatchback, a four-door sedan.

Vehicle length ranges from 3916 to 4198 mm, width - 1650 mm, height - from 1467 to 1501 mm. The front axle is at a distance of 2465 mm from the rear axle, and the ground clearance does not exceed 110 mm.

Under the hood of the "fourth" Volkswagen Polo, you can find a wide variety of three- and four-cylinder engines.

  • Gasoline engines include atmospheric and turbocharged units with a volume of 1.2-1.8 liters, the potential of which reaches 55-150 horsepower and 106-220 Nm of maximum torque.
  • Diesel versions are formed by "aspirated" and a pair of 1.4-1.9 liter turbo engines, developing 64-101 "horses" and 125-240 Nm of possible thrust.

There are four gearboxes - 5- and 6-speed manual gearbox, 4- and 6-speed automatic gearbox.

At the heart of the 4th generation Volkswagen Polo is the front-wheel drive bogie A04 (PQ24). The front suspension is independent with McPherson struts, the rear is semi-independent with a twisting V-beam. The steering is complemented by an adaptive, variable-force electro-hydraulic power steering. By default, the brake system is equipped with ABS and EBD, on the front wheels it has ventilated disc devices, and on the rear wheels - disc or drum, depending on the engine power.

The car has a number of advantages - attractive appearance, reliable design, solid interior, economical engines, fine handling, tenacious brakes and good soundproofing of the cabin.
Not without its drawbacks - a modest luggage compartment, low ground clearance, not the most comfortable seats in terms of configuration, and expensive service for a B-class car.
