The first incarnation of the Nissan Serena minivan with the in-house marking "C23" debuted on the Japanese market in 1991, and in 1992, the production of "left-hand drive" modifications focused on the countries of the Old World started in Spain. The car lasted on the conveyor until 2002, after which it gave way to the successor, but before "retiring", it managed to go through two small updates - in 1994 and 1997.

The original Nissan Serena release is a five-door minivan with a five- or eight-seat cabin configuration.

The overall length of the "Japanese" does not exceed 4315 mm, its height is 1830 mm, and the width is 1695 mm.

The front axle of the car is at a distance of 2735 mm from the rear axle, and 160 mm of ground clearance is visible under its "belly".

The first generation Serena was equipped with a large number of engines. For the minivan, gasoline four-cylinder "atmospheric" with a volume of 1.6-2.4 liters with an 8- or 16-valve timing and multipoint fuel injection were offered, producing 97-140 horsepower and 132-186 Nm of torque.

Installed on the car and atmospheric diesel "four" for 2.0-2.3 liters with an 8-valve timing scheme, releasing 67-75 "mares" and 128-145 Nm of ultimate thrust. The motors were combined with a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-band automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive transmission or a permanent four-wheel drive system.

The original Nissan Serena is based on a rear-wheel drive architecture with an independent suspension structure on two axles: the usual MacPherson struts with a transverse stabilizer are mounted in front, and a multi-link configuration with a stabilizer is mounted at the rear.
Basically, the car uses a rack-pinion steering mechanism equipped with a hydraulic control amplifier. On the front axle of the minivan ventilated "pancakes" of the brake system are involved, and in the rear part - drum devices.

"Serena" of the first generation has a whole list of positive qualities - ample opportunities for transformation of the cabin, good looks, fuel efficiency, generally good driving characteristics, unpretentiousness, high structural reliability and acceptable equipment.
But the car also has disadvantages - expensive maintenance, poor headlights, poor sound insulation and low dynamics.
