The Haval H9 is a large premium SUV and is also the flagship of the lineup of the sub-brand of the Chinese company Great Wall ...

But, declaring its "premium essence", it remains a "classic jeep" - with a frame body structure and a full-fledged off-road arsenal.

The world premiere of this car took place in April 2014 at the Beijing Automotive Industry Show, and a few months later its show was organized at the International Motor Show in Moscow. At home, the five-door car went on sale at the very beginning of 2015, and reached Russia in the summer of the same year.

At the end of October 2017, a restyled frame SUV Haval H9 was presented in Russia, to which, due to new bumpers and a radiator grille, the exterior was slightly "refreshed" and the interior was tweaked (slightly changing the architecture of the front panel and installing more ergonomic seats).

In addition, the "Chinese" was pumped over a gasoline engine, increasing its output, the diesel engine was separated (which had not been offered in our country before) and the 6-speed "automatic" was replaced with an 8-range one.

The Haval H9 looks very dignified, but its appearance very unequivocally alludes to the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, although it does not literally copy it. And if you tear off all the nameplates from the car, then no one in life will understand that this is a "Chinese" - its high-set body "flaunts" the proportions classic for SUVs and is discreetly flavored with chrome.

The car is most controversially perceived from behind because of the unfortunate shape of the lanterns, but from other angles it fully justifies its flagship title - an impressive front end with bi-xenon headlights and a massive "shield" of the radiator grille and a monumental silhouette with "inflated" wheel arches.

In terms of its dimensions, the Haval H9 is a large car: in length it is 4856 mm, of which 2800 mm falls on the gap between the axles, and in width and height - 1926 mm and 1900 mm, respectively. The ground clearance of the SUV is 206 mm, and its travel weight reaches 2325 kg.

The interior of the Chinese "nine" captivates with its beautiful design, well-thought-out ergonomics and excellent finishing materials (pliable plastics, appropriate inserts "like metal" and genuine leather). The original driver's workplace is a large multifunctional "steering wheel" with a four-spoke design and modern instruments placed in separate "wells", between which an informative display is "registered". The solid center console flaunts an 8-inch multimedia system monitor, "squeezed" by vertical air ducts, below which "music" and "climate" control units are "nestled".

As a result of the modernization by 2018, as already noted, there were some changes in the interior. So the separate "wells" of the instruments turned into "one solid oval well" - where the "round dials" turned into "semicircular" (tachometer on the left, and the engine temperature and fuel level on the right), and the average information display increased noticeably in size (thus becoming noticeably more informational and here, by the way, the speedometer "moved").

The configuration of the “central tunnel” has also slightly changed - the arrangement of all elements on it has been radically revised:

Salon at Haval H9 - seven-seater. The front seats, in addition to a decent profile with obvious lateral support, have a wide range of electric adjustments, heating and "memory", and the middle row of seats is well shaped and spacious for three adults on all fronts.

The third row is a two-seater without any conventions, but it is quite possible to withstand a short trip on it.

The fifth door opening sideways with the help of a pneumatic cylinder, in which neat stashes with tools are organized, provides access to the luggage compartment, which is correct in layout, however, with a seven-seater layout, it is tiny - only 112 liters.

The third row compares to the floor in two parts, increasing the volume of the "hold" to 747 liters, and the foldable middle sofa brings the capacity to 1457 liters. The "spare" of the SUV is suspended under the bottom.

In the Russian market, Haval H9 is offered with two engines to choose from:

  • The first option is a 2.0-liter GW4C20 gasoline aluminum "four" with one turbocharger, 16 valves, variable valve timing at the outlet and inlet and direct injection. It generates a maximum of 245 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1500-4800 rpm.
  • The alternative is a four-cylinder 2.0-liter diesel with an in-line layout, a common rail fuel supply system, a two-stage turbocharging and a 16-valve timing, producing 190 hp. at 4000 rpm and 420 Nm of peak thrust at 1400-2400 rpm.

Motors on the "ash-nine" are mated with an 8-speed "automatic" ZF (which, as already noted, in 2017 replaced the 6-speed), which has the ability to manually change gears, and an all-wheel drive transmission with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch, which is triggered by rear wheel slippage, "downshift" and six operating modes (Auto, Sand, Sport, Snow, Mud and 4L).

Off-road, the car feels very confident: in addition to a good off-road arsenal, it boasts decent entry and exit angles - 28 and 23 degrees, respectively.

In other countries, the "Chinese" is also equipped with gasoline and diesel V-shaped "sixes" with a volume of 3.0 liters, developing 313-333 "mares" and 480-650 N • m of torque.

At the heart of the Haval H9 chassis is a spar frame, to which the body is attached by means of rubber-metal supports. The front axle of the SUV rests on an independent suspension of a spring-lever type with passive shock absorbers, and a continuous axle on the trailing arms is installed at the rear (there are anti-roll bars "in a circle").

The car has disc brakes on all wheels (front - ventilated) with ABS, EBD, BA and other auxiliary electronics. In the "state" the five-door has a rack and pinion steering gear with hydraulic power steering.

The restyled Haval H9 2017-2018 is offered to Russian buyers in one, the most "sophisticated" configuration, called "Elite":

  • for the version with a gasoline engine, dealers ask for a minimum of 2,369,900 rubles,
  • and for the option with a turbodiesel you will have to pay from 2,489,900 rubles.

The standard equipment of the SUV is: six airbags, bi-xenon headlights, 18-inch wheels, an electric sunroof, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, leather trim, a multimedia system, a three-zone "climate" and an audio system with ten speakers.
In addition, the "base" includes: light and rain sensors, parking indicators "in a circle", a rear view camera, driver fatigue monitoring system, ABS, TCS, EBD, BA, ESP and much more.
